Part 1: International Food

Q: Can you find food from many different countries where you live? [Why/Why not?]

A: Yes, it is quite easy. This is primarily because the area is quite cosmopolitan and diverse, attracting people from various cultural backgrounds. There are numerous ethnic restaurants and international grocery stores that offer a wide variety of exotic and authentic cuisines. Additionally, globalization has made it possible for even local supermarkets to stock international ingredients, making it convenient to cook dishes from different countries at home.

Q: How often do you eat typical food from other countries? [Why/Why not?]

A: I try to eat typical food from other countries at least once or twice a week. This is because I enjoy exploring different flavors and cooking styles, which adds variety to my diet. Moreover, eating international food is not just about taste; it’s also a cultural experience that helps me learn about different traditions and customs. The availability of these foods in my city makes it easy to incorporate them into my regular meals.

Q: Have you ever tried making food from another country? [Why/Why not?]

A: Yes, I have tried making food from other countries several times. I find it fascinating to experiment with new recipes and cooking techniques. For instance, I have successfully made Japanese sushi, Italian pasta, and Indian curry at home. The process of gathering ingredients, following recipes, and learning about the culinary traditions of different cultures is both enjoyable and educational.

Q: What food from your country would you recommend to people from other countries? [Why?]

A: I would recommend trying pho, which is a traditional Vietnamese noodle soup. It is highly popular because of its rich and flavorful broth, made by simmering beef bones with various herbs and spices for hours. Additionally, I would suggest trying banh mi, a Vietnamese sandwich that combines French baguette with local ingredients like pickled vegetables, pâté, and grilled meats. These dishes offer a unique taste experience and represent the fusion of cultural influences in Vietnamese cuisine.

Part 2: Describe a Law

Describe a law that was introduced in your country and that you thought was a very good idea.

A: I would like to talk about the helmet law that was introduced in Vietnam. This law mandates that all motorbike riders, including passengers, must wear helmets while on the road. The law was introduced by the Vietnamese government as part of a national road safety campaign in December 2007. It was enacted in response to the increasing number of road accidents and fatalities involving motorbikes, which are the primary mode of transportation in Vietnam. The aim was to reduce the number of head injuries and save lives. This law was a very good idea for several reasons. Firstly, it has significantly reduced the number of serious injuries and deaths resulting from motorbike accidents. Wearing a helmet provides crucial protection for the head, which is the most vulnerable part of the body in an accident. Secondly, the law has raised public awareness about road safety and the importance of wearing helmets. Before the law was enacted, many people did not take helmet use seriously. Lastly, the implementation of this law has shown the government’s commitment to improving public safety and has set a precedent for other road safety measures.

Part 3: Discussion Topics

School Rules

Q: What kinds of rules are common in a school?

A: Common rules in schools typically include guidelines on attendance, punctuality, dress code, behavior, and academic honesty. For instance, students are often required to attend classes regularly and on time, wear appropriate school uniforms, and behave respectfully towards teachers and peers. Additionally, schools enforce rules against cheating and plagiarism to maintain academic integrity.

Q: How important is it to have rules in a school?

A: Having rules in a school is extremely important as they provide a framework for maintaining order and discipline. Rules help create a safe and structured environment where students can focus on learning without disruptions. They also teach students about responsibility, respect for authority, and the consequences of their actions, which are essential life skills.

Q: What do you recommend should happen if children break school rules?

A: If children break school rules, there should be a clear and consistent system of consequences to address the behavior. This could include verbal warnings, written warnings, detention, or meetings with parents. It is also important to provide opportunities for students to reflect on their actions and understand the impact of their behavior. In some cases, counseling or support services may be necessary to address underlying issues.
