Question 1: What places do people like to go shopping in your country?

Sample Answer (Band 8.0+ tham khảo):

Well, in Vietnam, people like shopping in markets, supermarkets, shopping malls, convenience stores, and online platforms. Traditional markets are still popular because they are cheap, lively, and good for buying fresh food.

Shopping malls attract young people and families because they combine shopping with eating, watching movies, and entertainment. Online shopping has also become extremely common because people can compare prices, read reviews, and wait for discounts without leaving home.

Từ vựng nổi bật:

Từ vựng Ý nghĩa
traditional markets Chợ truyền thống
shopping malls Trung tâm thương mại
convenience stores Cửa hàng tiện lợi
cheap and lively Giá rẻ và nhộn nhịp
online shopping Mua sắm trực tuyến
become extremely common Trở nên vô cùng phổ biến
compare prices So sánh giá cả

Question 2: Has shopping become a hobby for many people?

Sample Answer (Band 8.0+ tham khảo):

To be honest, yes, shopping has become a hobby for many people, especially with online shopping and social media.

Some people browse clothes, cosmetics, gadgets, or home decorations not because they urgently need them, but because it is enjoyable. Shopping can give people a small sense of excitement, especially when they find a discount or receive a package.

Another reason is that shopping is now connected with lifestyle and self-expression. People may buy things to improve their appearance, decorate their room, or follow a trend. Shopping is no longer just about buying necessities; for many people, it has become a form of entertainment.

Từ vựng nổi bật:

Từ vựng Ý nghĩa
browse Xem, lướt qua các sản phẩm
a sense of excitement Cảm giác hào hứng
self-expression Sự thể hiện bản thân
improve one’s appearance Cải thiện ngoại hình
follow a trend Chạy theo xu hướng
buy necessities Mua những thứ thiết yếu
a form of entertainment Một hình thức giải trí

Question 3: Do you agree or disagree that most people waste too much time shopping?

Sample Answer (Band 8.0+ tham khảo):

Well, I partly agree because some people do spend too much time shopping, especially online.

They may scroll through shopping apps for hours, compare similar products, or wait for flash sales, even when they do not really need anything. This can become a distraction from work, study, or rest.

However, not all shopping time is wasted because people need to choose carefully when they buy expensive or important items. For example, comparing prices before buying a laptop or household appliance is actually sensible. So, I’d say shopping becomes a waste of time only when it turns into mindless browsing.

Từ vựng nổi bật:

Từ vựng Ý nghĩa
scroll through shopping apps Lướt các ứng dụng mua sắm
flash sales Các chương trình giảm giá chớp nhoáng
a distraction from something Yếu tố gây xao nhãng khỏi điều gì
sensible Hợp lý, khôn ngoan
mindless browsing Việc lướt xem sản phẩm một cách vô thức
a waste of time Sự lãng phí thời gian

Question 4: Do you agree or disagree that people often buy things that they don’t really need?

Sample Answer (Band 8.0+ tham khảo):

Absolutely. Advertising, discounts, influencers, and limited-time offers can create a sense of urgency, so people feel they should buy something immediately. For example, someone may buy another shirt, phone case, or skincare product even though they already have enough at home.

Another reason is that buying things can make people feel temporarily happier or more confident. However, after a few days, the excitement may disappear, and the item may be left unused.

Từ vựng nổi bật:

Từ vựng Ý nghĩa
a sense of urgency Cảm giác cấp bách
limited-time offers Ưu đãi có thời hạn
temporarily happier Vui vẻ hơn trong thời gian ngắn
feel more confident Cảm thấy tự tin hơn
be left unused Bị bỏ không, không được sử dụng
buy things on impulse Mua sắm theo cảm hứng, bốc đồng

Question 5: Does buying things really make people happy?

Sample Answer (Band 8.0+ tham khảo):

To be honest, buying things can make people happy, but usually only for a short time.

A new phone, outfit, or pair of shoes can bring excitement and a sense of satisfaction, especially if someone has saved money for it. It can also improve daily life if the item is useful, like a comfortable chair or a good laptop.

However, shopping cannot solve deeper problems like stress, loneliness, or lack of purpose. If people depend on buying things to feel happy, they may always need more and more.

Từ vựng nổi bật:

Từ vựng Ý nghĩa
only for a short time Chỉ trong một khoảng thời gian ngắn
a sense of satisfaction Cảm giác hài lòng, thỏa mãn
save money for something Tiết kiệm tiền để mua thứ gì
deeper problems Những vấn đề sâu xa hơn
lack of purpose Thiếu mục đích sống
depend on something Phụ thuộc vào điều gì

Question 6: How much influence does advertising have when people are buying things?

Sample Answer (Band 8.0+ tham khảo):

Well, advertising has a huge influence because it shapes what people notice, desire, and remember.

A good advertisement does not only introduce a product; it creates a strong impression and makes people associate the product with beauty, success, comfort, or confidence. For example, a drink commercial may not just sell a drink; it sells the feeling of friendship and fun.

Another reason advertising is powerful is that it appears everywhere, from social media and YouTube to billboards and shopping apps. Even if people think they are making independent choices, repeated exposure can slowly affect their decisions.

Từ vựng nổi bật:

Từ vựng Ý nghĩa
have a huge influence Có ảnh hưởng rất lớn
shape what people notice and desire Định hình những gì mọi người chú ý và mong muốn
a strong impression Ấn tượng mạnh mẽ
associate something with something Liên tưởng điều gì với điều gì
appear everywhere Xuất hiện ở khắp mọi nơi
repeated exposure Việc tiếp xúc lặp đi lặp lại
independent choices Những lựa chọn độc lập
