Mặc dù thí sinh không thể đoán trước được chủ đề bài viết sẽ gặp ở phần thi IELTS Writing Task 2, tuy nhiên sẽ có một số chủ đề quen thuộc thường xuất hiện trong các đề mẫu và trong các tài liệu chính thức của Cambridge. Ở bài viết này, IELTS Lab sẽ giới thiệu tới bạn các chủ đề quan trọng mà bạn có thể gặp trong bài thi, đồng thời minh họa một số đề mẫu thường ra trong thời gian gần đây (2023-2024).

1. Education (Giáo dục)

Giáo dục là một chủ đề mà hầu hết các thí sinh đều rất quen thuộc. Đây cũng là một đề bài phổ biến, thường xuyên xuất hiện trong phần thi IELTS Writing Task 2. Các câu hỏi có thể biến đổi từ các chủ đề nhỏ như quy mô lớp học đến các chủ đề lớn của quy mô chương trình học và nền giáo dục nói chung.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 06/01/2024: Some universities offer online courses as an alternative to classes delivered on campus. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Đề thi ngày 15/02/2024: Many countries, not enough students are choosing to study science subjects in university.

What are the reasons for this and what can be done to encourage students to study science subjects?

Đề thi ngày 16/02/2024: Some people believe that children should study all subjects at school, while others think they should only study subjects they are good at or find interesting. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

2. Technology (Công nghệ)

Xã hội ngày nay đang chịu ảnh hưởng mạnh mẽ từ sự phát triển vượt bậc của công nghệ, khiến nhiều khía cạnh của cuộc sống có sự thay đổi đáng kể. Các câu hỏi Writing Task 2 cũng thường xuyên xoay quanh chủ điểm này.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 11/11/2023: Some people think modern communication technology is having some negative effects on social relationships. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Đề thi ngày 27/11/2023: Some people believe that technology has made the lives of workers easier while other people disagree. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Đề thi ngày 17/02/2024: Today more people put personal and private information (address, telephone and plastic card numbers) online to do their daily activities such as banking, shopping, and socializing. Is this a positive or negative development?

3. Health (Sức khỏe)

Sức khỏe là một chủ đề phổ biến khác trong IELTS Writing Task 2 do lĩnh vực này đang trở nên ngày càng phức tạp, với người dân ở nhiều quốc gia quan tâm hơn đến sức khỏe của họ và có các ý kiến khác nhau về cách chăm sóc cho bản thân.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 14/11/2023: In many countries, more and more people choose to buy imported food rather than food produced locally. Why do people buy imported food? What could be done to encourage people to buy local food?

Đề thi ngày 07/01/2024: Some people say in order to prevent illness and disease, governments should focus on reducing environmental pollution and housing problems. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Đề thi ngày 01/02/2024: Experts say if the old people spend time and get along with others and exercise every day, they will be healthier and happier. However, many elderly are suffering from loneliness and lack of fitness. Discuss the causes and solutions?

4. Environment (Môi trường)

Vấn đề môi trường là một vấn đề toàn cầu, có ảnh hưởng sâu rộng đến nhiều quốc gia trên thế giới. Chính vì vậy, không hiếm khi thí sinh bắt gặp chủ đề môi trường trong phần thi Writing Task 2.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 30/10/2023: Human activity has had a negative impact on plants and animals around the world. Some people think that this cannot be changed, while others believe actions can be taken to bring about a change. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Đề thi ngày 13/01/2024: It is a natural process that animal species such as dinosaurs and dodos become extinct. There is no reason for people prevent this from happening. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Đề thi ngày 29/01/2024: Many people think cheap air travel should be encouraged because it gives ordinary people freedom to travel further. However, others think this leads to environmental problems, so air travel should be more expensive in order to discourage people from having it. Discuss both sides and give your own opinion.

5. Government Spending (Chi tiêu của chính phủ)

Việc phân bổ ngân sách của nhà nước có ảnh hưởng lớn đến đời sống của người dân ở các quốc gia. Do đó, nhiều ý kiến được đưa ra nhằm ủng hộ hoặc phản đối việc sử dụng ngân sách nhà nước. Các câu hỏi trong đề IELTS Writing Task 2 rất thường xuyên hỏi về các lĩnh vực liên quan đến chủ đề này.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 23/01/2024: Restoration of old buildings in many cities involves enormous government expenditure. It would be more beneficial to spend this money to build new houses and roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Đề thi ngày 31/01/2024: Governments should support care vs finance for retired people while others believe that they should save money when they get older. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Đề thi ngày 09/03/2024: Some people think it is more important to spend public money on roads and motorways than on public transport systems such as railways and trams. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

6. Society (Xã hội)

Con người và cách con người hành xử trong xã hội là một chủ đề quen thuộc trong bài thi IELTS.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 24/02/2024: Some people think parents should supervise their children’s activities closely, while others believe children should have more freedom. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Đề thi ngày 27/02/2024: Throughout history, people have dreamed of living in a perfect society, but they have not agreed on what an ideal society would be like. What do you think is the most important element of a perfect society in the modern world? How can people work towards achieving an ideal society?

Đề thi ngày 16/3/2024: People who decide on a career path early in their lives and keep to it are more likely to have a satisfying working life than those who change jobs frequently. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

7. Sports (Thể thao)

Chủ đề thể thao luôn là mối quan tâm của người dân toàn cầu. Chính vì vậy, đây không phải là một chủ đề hiếm gặp trong bài thi IELTS Writing Task 2.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 07/12/2023: Some children nowadays take sports seriously while others play sports in their free time. Is it positive or negative development?

Đề thi ngày 13/01/2024: Government should ban dangerous sports, others think they have the freedom to choose. Discuss both views and give your comments.

Đề mẫu: It is generally accepted that exercise is beneficial for children and teenagers. Therefore, physical education and sport should be compulsory for all students in schools. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

8. Travelling (Du lịch)

Du lịch hay đi lại là những chủ đề luôn “hot” và thường xuyên xuất hiện trong bài thi IELTS Writing Task 2.

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 16/09/2023: More people than ever travel to other countries. Why is this the case? Is this a positive or negative development?

Đề thi ngày 11/01/2024: International travel is becoming cheaper, and countries are opening their doors to more and more tourists. Do the advantages of increased tourism outweigh the disadvantages?

Đề thi ngày 29/01/2024: Many people think cheap air travel should be encouraged because it gives ordinary people freedom to travel further. 9. Economics (Kinh tế)

Chủ đề kinh tế cũng là một trong những chủ điểm hay gặp trong bài thi IELTS Writing Task 2

Đề mẫu: When a country develops its technology, the traditional skills and ways of life die out. It is pointless to try and keep them alive. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Đề thi ngày 06/08/2023: Some experts suppose that when a country is already rich, any additional increase in economic wealth does not make citizens happier. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Đề thi ngày 06/01/2024: Economic progress is often used to measure a country’s success. However, some people believe that other factors are more important. What other factors should also be considered when measuring a country’s success? Do you think one factor is more important than others?

10. Art (Nghệ thuật)

Ví dụ:

Đề thi ngày 04/04/2023: Art classes such as painting or drawing are important for children’s development, so it should be compulsory in high school. Do you agree or disagree?

Đề thi ngày 14/01/2024: Some people say that the government should pay money for large pieces of art, like sculptures for public display in outdoor places. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Đề thi ngày 17/03/2024: Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? All students should be required to study art and music in secondary school. 

Một số lưu ý khi chuẩn bị bài thi

Sau khi đã xác định được một số chủ đề thường gặp trong phần thi IELTS Writing, các thí sinh cần thực hiện một số điều sau để có sự chuẩn bị tốt nhất cho bài thi.

Chăm đọc báo và cập nhật tin tức

Tất cả những chủ đề này thường được tìm thấy trong tin tức, trong nhiều loại câu chuyện và các bài báo tiếng Anh. Đọc tin tức là một cách hữu hiệu để tích lũy được kiến thức từng chủ đề và các từ vựng liên quan đến những chủ đề này. Từ đó, thí sinh sẽ dễ dàng hơn trong việc lên ý tưởng và cải thiện band điểm số Writing của mình.

Cải thiện từ vựng cho mỗi topic

Cập nhật tin tức bằng tiếng Anh sẽ cung cấp cho người học những từ phổ biến trong các chủ đề này. Người học có thể viết từ vựng ra giấy và ghi chú cách sử dụng, từ đó giúp phát triển kỹ năng viết của bản thân. Khi thí sinh luyện viết bài luận Task 2, hãy cố gắng sử dụng từ vựng này ở dạng đúng và trong các loại câu hỏi khác nhau để làm quen với những từ vựng này.

Luyện viết theo những chủ đề này

Tuy rằng đây không phải là danh sách đầy đủ nhất về các chủ đề thường gặp, nhưng những chủ đề trên là những chủ đề quen thuộc nhất và là điểm xuất phát phù hợp trong hành trình luyện tập Writing Task 2 của người học. Luyện tập viết theo các chủ đề trên, đặc biệt là các đề ra gần đây sẽ giúp người học cảm thấy dễ dàng hơn khi viết bài luận Task 2 cũng như luyện tập sử dụng từ vựng nâng cao phù hợp, theo đúng chủ đề cụ thể.

Trên đây là một số chủ đề phổ biến, thường xuyên xuất hiện trong phần thi IELTS Writing Task 2 gần đây. Người học cần có sự chuẩn bị hợp lý và kịp thời để có thể tối ưu điểm số Writing của mình.
