Sở thích là một trong những chủ đề phổ biến trong IELTS Speaking nhưng thí sinh thường hay vướng mắc ở khâu trình bày vì hay bị lạm dụng câu ‘I like’. Điều này dẫn đến việc giám khảo sẽ đánh giá thấp kỹ năng này của thí sinh và điểm sẽ không cao do lặp từ lẫn cấu trúc quá nhiều. Các cấu trúc thay cho ‘I like’

1) I’m keen on

Ví dụ: I am keen on learning a new language, particularly Mandarin, as I believe it will be beneficial for my career and personal growth.

In contrast, milk chocolate tends to be sweeter and less complex in flavor, which can sometimes feel too cloying for my taste buds.

Answer: I’m fond of running lately. It has become my go-to hobby as I find it not only helps me stay physically fit but also clears my mind and reduces stress levels. I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment after completing a run, no matter how long or short it may be. Running has become a crucial part of my daily routine, and I look forward to continuing this hobby for the foreseeable future.

 

Examiner: How do you usually spend your weekends?

Answer: I have quite traditional tastes in spending my weekends. I wake up early, enjoy a leisurely breakfast with my family, and then head out for a walk in the park or a hike in the nearby hills. Afternoon is reserved for some indoor activities like reading, board games, or watching movies. In the evening, I like to cook a hearty meal and dine with my loved ones, followed by some board games or card games. Weekends are all about unwinding, recharging, and spending quality time with my nearest and dearest.

 

Examiner: Are your hobbies mostly indoors or outdoors?

Answer: I have a preference for outdoor hobbies over indoor ones as I enjoy the fresh air, sunshine, and the freedom to move around. While indoor activities can be enjoyable, I find that being outside in nature, whether it’s hiking, biking, or simply sitting in a park, brings me a sense of peace and rejuvenation that I can’t find indoors. However, I do appreciate the convenience and coziness of indoor hobbies like reading or playing board games on a rainy day.

 

Examiner: Have you picked up any new hobbies recently, or have you been sticking with the same ones for a while?

Answer: As for new hobbies, I’m keen on exploring my creative side through painting and calligraphy. I recently discovered a local art studio that offers classes in both, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying learning new techniques and expressing myself through color and brushstrokes. However, I still make time for my long-standing love of hiking and nature photography, as they bring me a sense of peace and connection to the outdoors.

 

Examiner: Do you think it’s important to have hobbies outside of work or study? Why or why not?

Answer: I’m a big fan of the idea that having hobbies outside of work or study is incredibly important. Not only do hobbies provide a much-needed break from the stresses of daily life, but they also allow us to explore our passions, learn new skills, and meet like-minded individuals. By dedicating time to activities, we enjoy outside of our professional or academic pursuits, we can cultivate a well-rounded and fulfilling lifestyle.

 

Examiner: Are there any hobbies that you’ve tried in the past but didn’t enjoy as much as others?

Answer: While I am quite passionate about many hobbies, there have been a few that I have tried in the past but didn’t enjoy as much as others. One such hobby was knitting. I found it challenging to learn the basic stitches and became frustrated with the slow progress. Although I appreciate the beauty and intricacy of knitted items, it simply didn’t capture my interest in the same way as other hobbies like painting or hiking.
